We start by reinforcing a favorite decorating mantra: there is power in numbers. In fact, we recently made this point in our Decoist article on displaying collections with style. Below we see a group of vases atop the Draught Dining Table from CB2:
Do not think of the dining room as a traditional dedicated room with four walls that serve no other purpose. With the advent of the open floor plan and its immense popularity, the ’60s and ’70s idea of box-like rooms seems all but redundant. Contemporary design is all about integrating the living room, dining space and the kitchen as one big, harmonious space. This is precisely why a small dining room is a good option, even if you do have some additional space to spare! Use an area rug to define the dining area. Large pendant lights, contemporary chandeliers and smart recessed lighting can also demarcate the boundaries in a subtle manner.
Rather than build an entire dining table from scratch, why not re-purpose an object you have hanging out in your basement or garage? Our next DIY dining table, posted on Instructables by Julien Thibeault, was made out of a old reclaimed wood door wrapped in a sheet of metal. He added some Ikea table legs, oil, and stain to complete the sleek, chic look.
Another DIY pallet dining table worth drooling over is this one, made by A Beautiful Mess! Crafted by cutting the pallet slats to a uniform size, attaching them to a piece of plywood, and adding some super attractive hairpin legs, this table radiates an amazing vintage, rustic vibe!
